People often gain reputations for their habits, whether punctuality or lateness, generosity or stinginess, patience or impatience, and we tend to define others by these traits as a way of understanding them. Now that Paul has introduced himself, he turns to the church in Rome and immediately acknowledges their reputation—a church known throughout the Roman world for its faith in Jesus Christ.
