What to Know for Tonight!
Series: Heresy sir!
For the past four weeks, we have been doing a short series on heresy—what it is and why it matters. A heresy is not just a small disagreement; it’s a serious distortion of core Christian truth, especially about who Jesus is and how we’re saved. We have been talking about this because students are constantly exposed to spiritual ideas online and in culture, and we want them grounded enough in Scripture to recognize truth from error.
Lesson: A Practice in Heresies
This week in our “Heresies” series, we are taking our last week to get into small groups and put into practice what we have been learning for the past four weeks. The students will get examples of different statements and identify which ones are biblical and which ones represent heresy and why. The students will work together to examine where the statements are distorted, the reg flags in them and scripture to back up the statements.
As a reminder, our goal isn’t to make students fearful or cynical, but grounded and discerning. We want them to recognize that truth doesn’t need to be updated to stay relevant, and the real gospel still has power to change lives. We encourage you to continue the conversation at home and help your student think carefully about the messages they hear online, at school, and even in church settings.
Important Reminder!
Impact is a phone-free environment from the time students arrive until small groups end at 8:30 p.m. If you need to reach your student in an emergency, please text us at 626-761-0229 and we’ll respond right away. Our goal is to give them freedom from distraction so they can fully engage with one another and with God’s Word.

What is the Church?
The Church is the community of believers throughout time who have been saved by the work of Jesus Christ. It is the only institution that Jesus died for and the only one that will last for eternity. The local church gathers regularly to glorify God through the preaching of God’s Word and the practice of sacraments such as baptism and communion. All Christians are called to belong to a local church.
Scripture – Ephesians 2:19-22
19 So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, 20 built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, 21 in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. 22 In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.
Conversation Question:
Theologians sometimes use the phrase “universal church” or “invisible church” or just “the Church” to refer to every Christian who has ever lived. Why is it important to remember that the church consists of billions of people who came before us?
