What to Know for Tonight!

Killing Sin or Killed By Sin

Joshua 7

Hi parents!

Tonight we study Joshua 7, the story of Achan—a tough and sobering passage, but one that gives us a powerful picture of both the seriousness of sin and the goodness of Jesus.

We’ll talk about how sin never stays private. Achan tried to hide what he took, but his hidden sin affected his whole community. The same thing is true for us: the choices we make—especially when we hide them—always shape the people around us. Sin damages trust, relationships, and spiritual health.

But the story also points us forward to something better. Where one man’s sin brought judgment on many, the gospel shows us One Man whose obedience brings grace to many. Jesus takes what our sin deserves so we can receive what He deserves. That’s the hope our students left with tonight: we fight sin not out of fear of punishment, but because Christ has already rescued us.

We will encourage students to bring their sin into the light—to confess, repent, and pursue help from safe adults—because that’s where healing starts.

Below are a few questions to help you keep the conversation going on the ride home or at dinner.

Important Reminder!

Impact is a phone-free environment from the time students arrive until small groups end at 8:30 p.m. If you need to reach your student in an emergency, please text us at 626-761-0229 and we’ll respond right away. Our goal is to give them freedom from distraction so they can fully engage with one another and with God’s Word.

Questions for the Ride Home

  1. Why is being desperate for Jesus a good rhing?
  2. Where do you feel like you’re “at the end of yourself” right now? How might Jesus be inviting you to come to Him in it?
  3. What would it look like for our family to depend on Jesus together this week?

How Can I Be Saved?

If I confess that I am a sinner, repent of my sin and put my faith in Jesus to save me, I will be saved. I am not saved because of any good that I have done, but I am saved because Jesus loved me, died for me, and imparted his righteousness to me. I am now in Christ and will live with Him forever.

Scripture – Romans 3:21-23

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction: for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus

Conversation Question:

What is the consequence of being a sinner? Why do you need to be saved?
